Italy imposed severe travel limits to combat the spread of coronavirus by expanding the “red zone” to the entire country.
President Trump floated some economic measures he would discuss with Congress to ease the impact of coronavirus, including a payroll-tax cut.
The Dow dropped 2,000 points, or nearly 8%, on Monday, spurred by an oil price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia and continuing coronavirus fears. U.S. markets faced its largest decline since 2008. U.S. crude prices slid 25%. Markets have crawled back since in the Asia-Pacific region and in Europe on Tuesday.
The number of coronavirus cases in the U.S. rose to 607 cases, with 26 deaths—22 in Washington, two in California and two in Florida. Worldwide, there are cases across 115 countries and regions. The total number of coronavirus cases have climbed to 114,544, with over 4,000 deaths.
Italy’s infections rose to 9,172 cases, making it the second-worst-hit country.
The U.S. military has begun trimming down the 90,000 troops stationed in the Middle East as Iran, hard hit by the coronavirus, is not seen as large a threat.
