TOP NEWS

  • Global COVID-19 infections are approaching two million, more than doubling over the past two weeks. More than a quarter of the two million cases are in the U.S. Over the last 24 hours, 1,584 people in the U.S. died from the coronavirus and 26,366 new cases were confirmed, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of Johns Hopkins data. That is down slightly from daily highs of more than 2,100 and 35,000.

  • Governors of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Rhode Island will coordinate together on how they will eventually reopen their economies. Together they have formed a working group of public-health, economic and government officials from each state to develop a regional plan.

  • Amazon will begin to allow third-party sellers on its platform to resume shipping so-called nonessential items this week. The company had prioritized items deemed essential during the coronavirus outbreak, such as cleaning products, health-care items and shelf-stable food.

  • Morgan Stanley doesn’t expect U.S. economy to fully reopen for another year. The investment bank said "We believe the path to re-opening the economy will be long. It will require turning on and off various forms of social distancing and will only come to an end when vaccines are available, in the spring of 2021 at the earliest."

  • South Dakota Gov. Kristi L. Noem resisted social distancing measures. She had said it was up to individuals — not government — to decide whether “to exercise their right to work, to worship and to play. Or to even stay at home.” It now has one of the largest COVID-19 hotspots in the country. More than 300 workers at a giant pork-processing plant in the state have falling ill.

  • Bernie Sanders endorsed Joe Biden for President. “Today I am asking all Americans. I’m asking every Democrat, I’m asking every independent, I’m asking a lot of Republicans to come together in this campaign to support your candidacy, which I endorse, to make certain that we defeat somebody who I believe, and I’m speaking just for myself now, is the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country,” Mr. Sanders said.
